Have you heard that TEAL is the new orange this Halloween? If you’re not familiar with it, I wanted to make you aware of the Teal Pumpkin Project. It allows ALL children to be included in the festivities including those with food allergies and other conditions that limit them from eating food treats.
In addition to having multiple severe food allergies and other chronic conditions, my daughter has a rare allergic disease called eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). When she eats food, her body treats it like a bad guy.
EoE can can cause some pretty uncomfortable symptoms when she eats most foods. She has been on an eating plan that is free of dairy, corn, gluten, soy, eggs, nuts, grains, sugar, and legumes for many years and the disease is still active. Emma has a very limited number of safe foods and drinks elemental formula to get enough calories in. While there is no cure for EoE, we are so thankful for great doctors and regular endoscopies that monitor the esophagus along the way.
In all of this, my daughter has the MOST amazing attitude about it and inspires me every day. She was thrilled last year when a couple of homes in our neighborhood had teal pumpkins!
We thought we’d spread the word this year. Anyone who wants to be a part can simply buy a teal pumpkin and place it on your front porch to alert kids and parents (like us!) that you have non-food treats available at your house. Easy peasy!
Some ideas include stickers, bouncy balls, glow sticks, spider rings, bubbles, whistles, coins, erasers, pencils, etc. Everything you need to know including free downloads and signs to print up for your door are at the Website below.
We wanted to give something away to those that want to go TEAL this Halloween. To be entered in the drawing: #1-Share this post on facebook to spread awareness. #2-Send Emma some encouragement and inspiration by commenting below with a NON-food related fall tradition or activity you enjoy!
Emma and I will pick two winners this week and send you a teal pumpkin for your porch, a bag of non-food treats to give away, and a $20 gift card to Walmart so you can be ready for your TEAL trick or treaters! Locals will get a personal delivery from Emma and out of towners will get a package in the mail. Remember, TEAL IS THE NEW ORANGE! #TealPumpkinContest @foodallergy
